Pacifica Malibu Lemon Blossom

Hello Everyone! So this I needed to share with you as it came in so handy since last summer (yes yes I know summers over). But my morning walks to the train station in the summer could get mighty sweaty and feeling sticky all day is not appealing.

Malibu Lemon Blossom Hand & Body Lotion Wipes, hand and body wipes with moisturizing coconut milk. It says “Effortlessly wipe on moisture and watch dryness disappears in seconds. Luxuriously scented natural towelettes are infused with hydrating coconut milk, natural extracts and aloe Vera to provide lasting moisture.” There are 30 towelettes, 100% vegan, cruelty-free, no sulfates, parabens or petrolatum and the price at Ulta is $7.30.

I love this it’s become a staple and I carry around one in my bag, after a hot walk to the train station, or meeting up with friends after work it’s very cooling on the skin, has a fresh lemony scent, the towelettes are super soft and doesn’t leave you feeling sticky.

Roll-On Perfume is my other travel buddy I also got it the scent Malibu Lemon Blossom it’s $12.00 at Ulta. Really easy to throw in my bag for a little freshness boost on the go. Travels really well, its been rattling around in my bag a while now and hasn’t broken (the bottle is glass) or spilled.

The other scent i’m a little in love with is Tahitian Gardenia, I bought the perfume even though I go for more spicy scents than floral scents. This is one floral scent  don’t mind so much. My only gripe is it doesn’t come with a cap so it does not travel well. Tahitian Gardenia Spray Perfume $22.00

Hey! Where’ve you been?

Hello Everyone!

Well that’s a long explanation, the short version is work got busy, I got stressed and I made a conscious decision to put this blog on hold for a while. The problem is once I stopped it was hard to get started again plus I lost some of my enthusiasm for nail art somewhere along the way and I’m trying to recapture it after having bare nails for a long while.

I spent the summer surrounded by family in Jamaica who simultaneously smothered me with love and drove me nuts.

Me and two of my cousins.

Visited a few fun places in Jamaica.

YS Falls

Holland Bamboo

Beware driving down country roads

Took part in my best friends wedding (nope it wasn’t like the movie), I was fanning the bride because the church was hot and her face was sweating off.

Us later at the reception.

23 years of friendship

Spent some time bumming around DC with some of my cousins who came to visit me.

Cousin Kay in China Town

Hope you all had an awesome summer.

Furniture Repair

Hello Everyone! My off topic post for this month is repairing furniture. You don’t want to know the pain I went through trying to figure out out to repair this water spot on my TV stand, for all you crafty ladies I salute you. The problem was my TV stand is made out of composite wood (that means its not solid) so anything applied to it including liquid wood stain get absorbed into the wood and I was back to square one. So what to do?

I went to Home Depot and spoke to a few associates and all told me the same thing I would have to sand it down and refinish it, plus the purchasing of expensive tools (which was what they were trying to sell me). Well that would have been a bit more an me.

Sometimes speaking to the right person helps, he recommended Miniwax Gel Stain in Mahogany and all I needed was a brush, fine sand paper and buffing cloth.

This is the damaged area.

Scrape of the shiny finished on the damaged area.

Sand the area, clean off the dust, then use a damp cloth to wipe it clean.

Apple the stain and wait 10hr, I decided to leave it overnight.

Use the buffing cloth, buff out the stain already there, do not wipe it off. And your done, the are may look a little darker but I think it adds character.

You many need to redo this maybe once a year but you don’t have to scrap and sand it again, also go easy on the furniture polish especially if its very liquidy it won’t take off the color but it will damage the finish since it’s not sealed. May this save you from the headache I got trying to figure it out. And note to self COASTERS.

This *ish

Good morning my beautiful ones, I have been trying to keep my peace and zen all morning because I found myself upset on behalf of someone i’ve never met, never spoken to outside of leaving comments on her post, but as a fellow blogger this is…..[insert appropriate word here.]

I’ve been following thepolishdokie on instagram forever as she is a prolific indie polish swatcher. What was done to her is unacceptable, I don’t support unscrupulous companies that steal other peoples work or ideas copyrighted or not. There are some nail artist with contracts from companies to make nail art designs for them, she doesn’t have one.

On which planet is this ok?

This is her original work, notice how long ago this was posted on instagram.

It has also happened to badgirlnails

I just found a new Kiss product in Walgreens last week and it was good, pretty great in fact and was all set to write a review on it this weekend but that will NOT be happening. I have only four of their products, I will NOT be purchasing anymore. DO NOT support companies that are unethical and do not positively support the nail art community, no matter how many sales and promotions they have.

Why Should you care? Good question and unfortunately most people don’t care until it happens to them.

DO NOT look away and think this couldn’t happen to you.

Origins Make Difference Plus+ Rejuvenating Moisturizer

Hello Everyone! Welcome to winter with Seborrheic Dermatitis.

A little background: In my teens I was diagnosed the Atopic dermatitis (eczema) and when I had flair ups I figured nothing can be worse than that…right?

Well yes, yes there is. When my face started becoming itchy last year and started breaking out with weird rashes I thought I was allergic to something so I stopped using all makeup and moisturizer products but It only got worse.

Fast forward to the dermatologist, scratch tests and biopsy (because I also have this lovely condition called Scalp Folliculitis so she wanted to be certain of what she was treating and it wasn’t something else masquerading as dermatitis). Finally getting a diagnosis of Seborrheic Dermatitis and was prescribed face wash and steroid cremes and now realizing I can’t use any of my previous moisturizers because they make me break out. No DIY body oil for my face, it feeds the beast. I decided to to try a natural products turns out that wasn’t so easy, a lot of companies have a loose interpretation of the word “natural”.

I saw Naptural85 use Origins No Puffery cooling roll-on for puffy eyes in one of her vlogs and wanted to find out more about the brand because she uses a lot of all natural products. That’s how I found Origins Make Difference Plus + Rejuvenating Moisturizer, their products do not contain any parabens, petrolum, mineral oils, animal products etc.

At the counter I tried a few and the scents turned me off, but I liked this one it smells like a mild peppermint then I noticed the price $41.00 and opted for the less expensive one Ginzing which was $26.50 which has a citrus scent.

This is my most recent flair up in December 2014

What changed my mind and made me exchange it was on my way home I kept rubbing the back of the hand I had tested Make Difference Plus + on. I realized my hand was so soft and the lines were all filled out and plumped up, while the hand I had tested Ginzing on still looked the same. I returned it the next day for Make Difference Plus +. It’s super hydrating and plumps out the lines in the skin.

This is what my skin looks like with the flair up mostly gone and Make Difference Plus + applied. (This is the same cheek as the previous photo taken the back camera.)

Now you may look at the price and say hell no, but I bought that jar last August, I used it twice a day, every day and it lasted until the end of December. I think I got my money’s worth, don’t you?

There are three types of Make Difference Plus + Rejuvenating Moisturizers for oily skin, a little oily/combination skin and super dry skin. The one I use is for combination skin, the product feels a little like gel and is very light.

Like most places they will give you a sample if you ask for it just ask them nicely to scrape off the top layer that other customers may have touched (don’t do that ask for a q-tip), or if they have one not on display for samples.

I tested out the Ultra Rich which is for super dry skin and is very creamy, and also Starting Over which is said to be “Age-erasing moisturizer with Mimosa”. Both were too thick for me and I started seeing signs of a flair up.

I love this stuff, i’m happy, my skin is….well not happy because what I have is a skin rejecting my every effort to live in it, but for now it’s quiet.

DIY Liquid Palisade

Hello Everyone, I’m sure you’ve seen promotions for “liquid tape” for protecting your cuticles for easy cleanup and doing easy nail art or peel off base. They’ve been around for a while, well all that is, is this liquid latex.

Liquid latex can be used in a variety of ways to create special effects wrinkles, burns, scars. I played a round with Mehron Liquid Latex a while back and really liked it, but with almost any liquid latex the one thing most people will complain about is the smell, because most of them contain ammonia so you get that stale pee in an alley smell…yeah. In searching for a less stinky one at the time I came across this brand, Liquid Latex Fashions Ammonia Free Liquid-Latex Paint but fearing another dud I didn’t buy it. What I did recently remember is that they had a variety of colors. Hmmmmm (¬‿¬)

Here’s what you’ll need to do your own liquid tape, an empty polish bottle, a funnel or pipette and your liquid latex.

Insert funnel and pour ……hold up, don’t do that, I highly recommend you use a pipette it may take little longer to get the liquid in the bottle but you’ll get considerably less mess. If you are using a funnel, pour it really slowly (which will be hard, latex is very watery) and and raise the funnel as you pour (trust me. learn from my mistake).

There you have it.

Here’s a short demo, ignore my Christmas music (^_^;)

The dry time for this is very short, way shorter than using Elmer’s glue, the top half of photo below is from me applying it to picking up my phone to take a picture and it was halfway dry. And joy for all it’s not stinky, but when you first open the jar you get a whiff of something chemically and then you don’t smell it anymore.

If you are simply in love with the packaging you can buy empty liquid eyeliner bottles and the pipettes will work with this a well. If you purchase everything linked in this blog you’ll be spending less than $20. So save yourself $22 + shipping for 0.3 ounces of product when you can buy 4 ounces of liquid latex for $5.99 (colors sell at different prices) and probably wont run out for a really long time.

I would never try to stop anyone from making a living but I find the prices a little outrageous for what it is. I’m just giving you alternatives, try it out see if it works for you.

Thanks for reading and share the knowledge don’t keep it to yourself. (⌒▽⌒)

– Kerri

PS: Oh there is also a clear (which is my next purchase) that would make an awesome peel off basecoat if you don’t want it in color.

Mac’s Alluring Aquatic

Hi Everyone, I’m sure you’ve seen posts like this everywhere but I had high hopes of getting this collection, I wanted the lipsticks, blush and bronzer, but sometimes things happen for a reason. I spaced on the online launch and by the time I remembered it was all sold out.

Mac scores high with the design of this packaging, but am I the only one that thinks it feels a bit too flimsy, i’m not sure why I expected it to feel a bit more weighted/solid. I still like that textured feel of those water droplets, very unique.

I got to see them in store and was happy I hadn’t bought them online. I ended up just getting these. I tried the blush in store and on me was very sheer and a bit chalky it would have taken a lot of building up, and the bonzers were way too shimmery for me.

Lipsticks $17.50

Eye Shadow $19.50

Mystical is a warm rose cremesheen lipstick, lined with Chestnut.

Goddess of the Sea is described as dark vibrant violet cremesheen lipstick, I think it looks more berry. Lined with Currant, they glide on without tugging your lips..

I usually fill in my lower lip because it’s lighter than my top but I didn’t in this case.

This is Lorelei Extra Dimension Eye Shadow, is described as a “golden beige” it’s gorgeous and has hint of a peachy undertone. On my skin tone it looks a lot cooler than it does on other swatches i’ve seen but I don’t mind.

On my right eye just Lorelei and on the left it’s warmed up with some burgundy shadow. (Ignore the shiny skin.)

IT Cosmetics Makeup Brushes

Hi Everyone, Want marshmallow puffs on your face and eyelids? Open the box! Open the box!

Say hello to It Cosmetics Heavenly Luxe 6 Pc Brush Set w/ Travel Case I got this from Ulta for $39.50.

I seem to be on a brush buying kick lately, I tend not to buy overly expensive brushes and single It Cosmetics brush tend to be a bit on the pricey side. So when I came across these I couldn’t resist. I also bought a Crown Brush Travel set (I wish I could return it) that is nothing like, these are the same length as a full size brushes.

The brushes included:

Foundation Brush
Powder Brush
Concealer Brush
Crease Brush
Eye Shadow Brush
Eyeliner and Brow Brush with Spooly

This set comes in a faux leather travel case which flips open and has a velcro fastener so it can be securely closed, I’m not really a fan, it’s probably just me but I don’t like that the brushes are so squished and the sides are open so it doesn’t really protect the brushes from dust.

The brushes have a solid silver handle and ferrule and the hairs are synthetic and sooooo soft. So far absolutely no shedding (take note bareminerals i’m surprised the brushes I have from them are’t bald).

It’s just such luxurious brushes for a travel set, look at the detail, I love it!

Pop-Arazzi Makeup Brushes

Hey Everyone, Stepping away from the polishes for a bit because I came to a screeching halt when I was walking through the makeup aisle in CVS when I saw THE cutest brushes.

These brushes are really cheap, they also come in a solid pink color. The brushes I bought cost

Eye Crease Blender $2.99

Eyeshadow Brush $2.99

Concealer Brush $2.99

Eyeliner Brush $1.99

Brow & Lash Brush $1.99

The most expensive ones that I didn’t get was the foundation and powder brush $3.99 each. There is also a 5 piece travel set for $5.99.

In truth these brushes aren’t very well made expect the ferrule to detach from the handle at some point, and the bristles aren’t marshmallow puffs on your eye lids but they aren’t very abrasive either, believe me I’ve felt WAY worse. But what would you expect for that price, that being said they are still good brushes. I’ve used the shadow and blender brushes and they work and since I prefer a firmer blending brush, I think that’s my favorite.

Well made or not they can get away with it just because they are so darn cute.

I’m also using the eyeliner brush for a cuticle clean up brush, it’s working pretty well.
